چکیده

• Mimicry effects are difficult to regulate as people are not usually aware of their influence. • In two studies, planning with implementation intentions regulated mimicry effects. • Planning how to be unprejudiced strengthened the mimicry–liking effect for unlikable others. • Planning how to be thrifty weakened the persuasive effects of being mimicked on spending. • Mere goal intentions to be unprejudiced or thrifty did not regulate mimicry effects.

Promoting the translation of intentions into action by implementation intentions: behavioral effects and physiological correlates

The present review addresses the physiological correlates of planning effects on behavior. Although intentions to act qualify as predictors of behavior, accumulated evidence indicates that there is a substantial gap between even strong intentions and subsequent action. One effective strategy to reduce this intention-behavior gap is the formation of implementation intentions that specify when, w...

Metacognition in action: the importance of implementation intentions.

When people furnish their goal intentions ("I intend to attain the goal x!") with implementation intentions ("I will initiate the goal-directed response y when situation z arises!"), the initiation of goal-directed responses becomes automatized. As this type of automaticity stems from a single act of will, it is referred to as strategic automaticity. We report various studies demonstrating that...

Strategic automation of emotion regulation.

As implementation intentions are a powerful self-regulation tool for thought and action (meta-analysis by P. M. Gollwitzer & P. Sheeran, 2006), the present studies were conducted to address their effectiveness in regulating emotional reactivity. Disgust- (Study 1) and fear- (Study 2) eliciting stimuli were viewed under 3 different self-regulation instructions: the goal intention to not get disg...

Self-regulatory strategy and executive control: implementation intentions modulate task switching and Simon task performance.

Two tasks where failures of cognitive control are especially prevalent are task-switching and spatial Simon task paradigms. Both tasks require considerable strategic control for the participant to avoid the costs associated with switching tasks (task-switching paradigm) and to minimize the influence of spatial location (Simon task). In the current study, we assessed whether the use of a self-re...

P112: Tumour Associated Macrophages and Vasculogenic Mimicry: A New Insight in Glioblastoma Treatment

Glioblastoma is one of the most common brain tumors in adults with poor prognosis, aggressiveness, and treatment resistance. Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) consists of generating vascular-like channels by tumor cells, independent of endothelial angiogenesis. Studies showed in glioblastoma, the proportion of VM to all vascular channels is associated with poor prognosis and higher invasiveness levels....
